Questions & Answers

The Fine Print

Ask the questions. We’ll give it to you straight.

The Brand
Who is Bad Luck Bourbon Co.?

We’re a veteran-owned lifestyle brand built for the people who got knocked down and kept moving anyway. Apparel, goods, and artifacts made for riders, risk takers, hard lessons, and second chances.

For the unlucky. By the unlikely.

Was Bad Luck Bourbon Co. real? What does “Est. 1883” mean?

The story began on the page. Our brand grew out of a work of fiction — a Kentucky family, a distillery, and a run of luck nobody would envy.

Whether any of it happened is a question we’re happy to leave open. What we can tell you is this: the name was sitting there waiting, and in 2025 we picked it up and put it back to work. Resurrected, not invented.

Believe what you like. That’s the fun of it.

Do you actually sell bourbon?

Not yet — and we won’t pretend otherwise. Today we sell apparel, goods, and artifacts. We are not a licensed distillery and we do not sell alcohol.

The bottle is the goal. Every shirt, every candle, every artifact sold goes toward building the bottle we hope to pour tomorrow. Buy a tee, pour a foundation.

Where are you based?

Flint, Michigan. The story is rooted in Kentucky, but the work happens here.

What’s with the number 13?

Thirteen is our lucky number. Most people spend a lot of energy avoiding it. We built a brand on the idea that the things everyone else calls unlucky are usually the things worth keeping.

What do your sayings mean?

For the unlucky. By the unlikely. — Who this is for, and who built it.

What you take, you carry. — The scars, the lessons, the miles, the people. You don’t set them down.

Good luck never built a legend. — Nobody tells the story where everything went right.

Bad luck hangs over all of us. So does the moon. — Same sky. Depends what you look up at.

What are you building toward?

A bottle, eventually. But bigger than that: a place to work.

As we grow, our goal is to employ the people who get passed over — veterans and disabled veterans, Americans living with disabilities or special needs, and people rebuilding their lives after abuse. Folks who got knocked down and kept moving anyway.

We’re not there yet, and we won’t claim to be. It’s where we’re headed, and every order moves us closer.

For the unlucky. By the unlikely. We meant it.

The Goods
Who designs and makes your t-shirts?

We do — 100% designed and made by us. Small front print, big back print, soft midweight cotton, built for everyday wear rather than a hanger.

Do you offer custom sizing?

Yes. If you need a size outside what’s listed, reach out and we’ll take care of you. Nobody gets left out because of a size chart.

Can I get a personalized or custom shirt?

Not on single orders right now. For larger runs — 25 pieces or more — we’re open to custom work, as long as the design incorporates our brand.

Got a club, a crew, a ride, or an event in mind? Get in touch and let’s talk.

Tell me about the hand soap.

Castor oil hand soap, custom scented and hand poured by us in small batches. Gentle, nourishing, pH balanced, and safe for everyday use. The base is sourced from a trusted US supplier; the scenting, pouring, and finishing are ours.

Four scents:

Proof of Poor Choices · Cherry · Tobacco
Bottom Shelf Decisions · Smoked Vanilla
Last Call Luck · Spiced Bourbon
Neat & Unfortunate · Velvet Ember · Ambered Vanilla

Tell me about the candles.

Two scents, both in 8.5 oz amber glass with a single cotton wick and roughly a 35–45 hour burn, finished with our handcrafted vintage label and made in small batches.

Bad Luck Burns · Mahogany & Teakwood. Smooth, woody and timeless — aged bourbon barrels, weathered timber, and stories earned the hard way.
Let It Burn · Oak Moss & Amber. Warm and earthy, made for releasing what no longer serves you.

$21.99 each, or grab both in The Bad Luck Candle Collection for $39.99 and save four bucks.

Straight answer on how they’re made: our candles are privately labeled — we source them and finish each one with our own hand-applied vintage label. We’re not pouring them ourselves yet. When that changes, we’ll say so plainly. Our hand soaps, on the other hand, are hand poured and hand labeled by us.

Some people run from bad luck. We burn it well.

What is the artwork?

Every piece is 100% upcycled art carrying our brand mark — something with a past, given another one. Fitting, for a company built on second chances.

What does “limited edition” actually mean?

It means gone when it’s gone. Our core design will always be here. Limited runs — like the Sturgis edition — are made once and retired when the event passes. No restocks, no second chances.

Orders & Support
Do you offer a military discount?

We do. We’re proudly veteran owned, and we offer 10% off to all military — active duty, reserves, National Guard, retired, veterans, and military families — with valid proof of service.

Reach out through our contact page or email us before ordering and we’ll get you set up.

How long does shipping take?

Standard shipping applies to all orders, with rates calculated at checkout. Tracking goes out as soon as your order is on its way.

Here’s the honest version: we’re two people. We pack every order ourselves and we move as fast as two sets of hands allow. If you need something by a certain date, message us first and we’ll tell you straight whether we can make it.

I’m local to Flint. Can I pick up?

On artwork only — yes. If you’re in Flint or within about an hour, we’re happy to arrange pickup or local delivery for art pieces. Just reach out before you order.

Everything else ships standard.

What is your return policy?

Standard returns: unworn, unwashed items in original condition may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping is on you unless the mistake was ours.

All sales are final on artwork and limited edition items. Those are made once and gone when they’re gone.

Something arrived damaged or wrong. Now what?

Get in touch with your order number and a photo. We’ll make it right. We’ve had enough bad luck to know how it feels when nobody helps.

How fast will you answer me?

We answer every message as fast as we can. We’re family owned — just the two of us putting this whole thing together.

If you haven’t heard back within 48 hours, we never got your message. Email us directly at BadLuckBourbon@yahoo.com and we’ll get right back to you.

We aren’t perfect. Unlikely we’ll get it right every time. Sort of the whole brand, really.
